Your child's coaches have made a huge commitment and have a large amount of responsibility. Help them out however you can, be on time for practices and games, communicate with them, and let them know that you're willing to do your part.
Coaches have their hands full just coaching, so a parent (or two) who can take on the other team responsibilities is a necessity. Managing team schedules and volunteers at games are ongoing needs. At the end of the season, team parties and trophies need a solid lead as well.
The weighmaster is a person who weighs football players before games to ensure that they meet identification, grade, age and weight requirements. This is done to ensure that players are matched up against opponents of similar size and weight.
The scoreboard operator is responsible for updating and maintaining the scoreboard and game clock during a game. It's easy because a referee gives all the signals, and no experience is needed.
The chain crew (commonly known as the "chain gang") is a crew of three that moves signal poles on one of the sidelines. The chain crew, under the direction of the referees, signals the officials' decisions; it does not make decisions. Players look to the chain crew to see the line of scrimmage, the down number, and the line to gain. It's a great way to get the best view of the game directly on the sideline and no experience is needed!
